The 2018 Municipal Election is Underway and I need your help!
I have had the honour of serving the residents of Ward 1 for the past four years. This election, the Ward boundaries have changed.
Ward 1 is now bounded on the:
North by Dundas Street, between Burloak Drive and Bronte Road;
East by Bronte Road, between Dundas Street and the QEW; and by the QEW, between
Bronte Road and Third Line; and by Third Line, between the QEW and Lake Ontario;
South by Lake Ontario, between Third Line and Burloak Drive; and,
West by Burloak Drive, between Lake Ontario and Dundas Street.
If you live in this area, I would be honoured to continue representing you at both the Town of Oakville and the Region of Halton. Together, we have made major changes to the area, brought a revitalization that is the envy of municipalities west of the GTA and activated the Bronte Waterfront like no other area in Oakville.
Last election I went door-to-door speaking with you about the traffic and congestion we faced. I outlined an outstanding project, the Wyecroft Bridge Extension, that should have been built creating a major linch pin in the East/West corridor bottle-necking the Bronte area.
Because of the work I have done, I'm proud that the Region of Halton approved the construction of the bridge with Provincial concurrence, the bridge will be built with Provincial funding using no municipal tax dollars. Not only that, it will be in the Region's 2019 budget and construction commencing in 2019.
I have worked diligently to see the Bronte Mall finally move ahead with its approved plans and revitalize the Bronte village area. As a member of the Livable Oakville Subcommittee, I worked for the past three years on the Town's Official Plan Review updating where we will allow growth, but more importantly where we will protect residential neighbourhoods. This includes the Palermo area, the Bronte Village Growth Area and the Bronte Go Station Growth Node. I understand the pressures and infrastructure needs for these areas to accommodate growth and will fight to ensure they are in place before the growth comes.
As Council's appointee on the Oakville Tourism Board, Visit Oakville, we have doubled the tourism budget and are set to see major permanent sustainable funding to attract visitors and support our local economy while providing first class experiences for Oakville residents and visitors. Working with our hotels, attractions, Chamber of Commerce and BIAs, we have a plan in place that will truly make Oakville a destination for all.
The Bronte Harbour Conference Centre is now under Town control and I look forward to bringing the options for how we create the best place in the GTA to visit to the residents of Ward 1 and Oakville. While the flooding of 2017 caused major damage to the Bronte Harbour, we have recommitted to not only fixing the shoreline and Bronte ramp damage, but making our harbours better then ever before.
To do all of this, I need your help. I am asking today, please help me keep Ward 1 on track and to continue with the record investments we've brought to the Ward since I was elected.
If you can volunteer any time or could make a donation, together we can keep Bronte and Ward 1 on the path of continued success. Please email me to help out or if you need more information.
